Do you honour God?

1 Samuel 2:11-36

The Scenario in Israel (1500-1000 BC)

  • the Priest-centred Sacrificial system …
… giving sinful people access to a holy God (Leviticus)
  • the Prophet-centred revelatory process …
… by which God communicated with his people
    – Deuteronomy 18:17-22
  • the people’s longing for a King
… the representative of God’s presence among his people

Failing mechanisms

  • Breakdown in the Priestly line – Eli & Sons
  • Silence in the Prophetic line
  • the Job Description for the King! – Deuteronomy 17:14-20

… and the FORESHADOWING of the TRUE Prophet-Priest-King

The ESSENCE of Samuel

  • supernatural birth
  • dedication
  • commitment
  • listening
  • obedience

The ESSENCE of Christ, the TRUE Prophet-Priest-King

  • supernatural birth – Luke 1:26-35
  • dedication – Simeon’s & Anna’s testimony (Luke 2:25-38)
  • commitment (Luke 2:41-49)
  • obedient listening (John 12:49-50)

Something to think about …

  • If God took so much trouble to prepare the way for Jesus …
… that we might understand what he came to do
… and why he had to come …
… are we taking him seriously and …
… coming to him continually as our Great High Priest? (Hebrews 4:14-16)
… listening to him speak to us daily by reading his Word? (John 6:68-69)
… submitting to him as Lord/King of all our lives? (Matthew 7:21-27)

Gathering again (updated 5/7/2020)

From the 19th of July at 9:45 am we are going to start physically gathering again as a Church. To be Covid-Safe we are allowed 72 people in the Church building and 42 people in the hall at any one time. We will being doing Church “live” that is with people physically leading the gathering and preaching up the front of the building (not on the screen). And we also hope to have a Covid-Safe morning tea. At the same time we will be doing the “live stream” from the Church building and a zoom morning tea for those who cannot join us at the Ministry Centre.

For this to take place we will need extra people to help in serving. We will need a Covid-Safe welcoming and ushering team, more people to ensure we serve morning tea following the new health department guidelines and an expanded technical team to ensure our live stream and in house audio/visuals work effectively.

Please pray:

  • That we will gather in a way that brings glory to God, keeps people safe and respects the new governmental regulations.
  • That we will look for ways in which we can serve our brothers and sisters in Christ at church.
  • That the ministry centre would be Covid-Safe.
  • That people would have wisdom to stay at home when they should.

Praise God that we can gather again. Please get in contact with us if you have any questions.
